Root beer is a sweet, tan colored drink traditionally made using the root beer tree Sassafras albidum (sassafras) or the Smilax ornata (sarsaparilla) vine as the main flavor. Root beer may be alcoholic or non-alcoholic, naturally decaffeinated or have caffeine added, and may be carbonated or non-carbonated.
